What is health coaching?

Health Coaching establishes a partnership between coach and client, who work together to create a personalized plan for wellness.  Being healthy is not simply the absence of disease, but is rather, a holistic approach to well-being.  It is a whole body, mind and spirit approach to well-being.

Health Coaches (or Wellness Coaches), work with clients at their individual present level of health, and develop appropriate goals and action plans.  These professionals facilitate and support the client in developing a healthy lifestyle change.

The 6 dimensions of the health and wellness model:

  • Physical
  • Social
  • Intellectual
  • Occupational
  • Emotional
  • Spiritual

Once you obtain your health coach certification, you can find your new career path to assisting clients in a variety of levels of health need.  You may help a client to manage a chronic disease, generally promote health, fitness and vitality, or even aid in a recovery from surgery or other medical procedures.  Coaching can empower patients to take greater responsibility for their health.

With increasing attention on preventive health care, the demand for health and wellness coach professionals is increasing at a rapid rate.  For more information on available careers in health coaching, click here.
